Intern Spotlight: Lindsey Lee’s Internship Journey with Us

When you first meet Lindsey Lee, our Treasury Intern, you’re immediately struck by her warm smile and positive energy. As she wraps up her internship today, Lindsey reflects on her time working at Jebsen & Jessen Group and the experiences she’s gained along the way.

Q1: Tell us a bit about yourself.

Hi everyone! I’m Lindsey Lee and I’m originally from Panama - a beautiful country known for its famous canal, vibrant culture and stunning beaches.

Although I was born and raised in Panama, my family is Chinese, so I’ve always enjoyed blending different cultures. It’s been an exciting adventure to live here in Singapore while pursuing my Master’s in Data Analytics at Nanyang Technological University (NTU). I’ve spent the last 3.5 years in the finance world, diving into different roles, with the past 1.5 years focused on Treasury Operations, where I’ve mainly supported Latin American countries. This internship is an exciting opportunity to broaden my experience in Treasury, especially in the Asia market.

When I’m not crunching numbers, you’ll find me crafting, baking or enjoying the great outdoors, whether it’s hiking, cycling or chilling at the beach. Recently, I’ve been loving exploring Singapore, from its lush gardens and museums to the iconic hawker centres. If you have any tips on hidden gems around the city or must-try foods, I’m all ears!

Q2: What inspired you to pursue this internship with Jebsen & Jessen Group and how did you get it?

This internship is part of my master’s degree program (credit-bearing) and while I could have pursued a role more focused on data analytics, I’ve always been fascinated by how businesses manage their finances and navigate complex markets. I was eager to broaden my perspective and gain insights into how Treasury operates in the rapidly growing and dynamic markets of Asia. Jebsen & Jessen stood out as the ideal company for this, given its strong presence and continued growth in South East Asia and beyond. I knew it would be the perfect place to learn from industry leaders and contribute to the company’s success.

As for how I got the internship, I applied through LinkedIn, then had a smooth and enjoyable interview with my current manager and HR. The whole process was simple and straightforward.

Q3: What are your main responsibilities as an intern and looking back, how has this internship shaped your perspective or goals for the future?

When I first joined the Treasury team as an intern, I wasn’t exactly sure what to expect, but I definitely didn’t expect to be working on projects that would directly support the company’s big-picture priorities. Pretty cool for an intern, right?

During my internship, I’ve had the opportunity to work on three major projects. Each project connects directly to the group’s treasury priorities and being trusted with that level of responsibility has made me feel like I’m truly contributing and not just learning from the sidelines.

This internship has also been a crash course in bridging the gap between theory and practice. I’ve been able to take what I’ve learned in my master’s program, especially in data analytics and apply it in real, tangible ways to improve Treasury processes. Whether it’s analysing financial data or sitting in on strategic discussions with my manager and the Finance Director, I’ve learned so much about decision-making and thinking beyond the numbers.

Through this experience, I’ve come to appreciate the importance of data-driven insights in treasury operations. I was involved in analysing financial trends, predicting cash requirements, and helping identify financial risks—all of which rely heavily on data analytics. This intersection of finance and data has further strengthened my interest in pursuing a career where I can leverage data to optimise financial strategies and processes.

Looking ahead, I see myself in a role where I can keep blending data analytics with finance and using automation, modelling, and strategic insights to help businesses make better financial decisions. This internship hasn’t just been a great learning experience—it’s helped shape the kind of career I want to build.

Q4: What are the most unforgettable or memorable aspects you've had during your internship here?

While the hands-on projects have been a major highlight, some of my most memorable moments happened outside of the spreadsheets and dashboards.

I’ve loved getting to celebrate so many cultural events here like Chinese New Year, Hari Raya and International Women’s Day. I had my very first Lo Hei (turns out how high you toss the salad actually matters!) and even tried my hand at crafting a Wau, a traditional Malaysian kite. These moments helped me connect with my colleagues in such a fun and personal way and gave me a deeper appreciation for the rich, multicultural fabric of Singapore.

One event that really stuck with me was the female leadership fireside chat during International Women’s Day. Listening to the stories and insights of women leaders at Jebsen & Jessen was incredibly inspiring. Their advice on navigating leadership, career growth and personal life was not only empowering but also reassuring, especially for someone like me, just starting out in my career.

It reminded me that internships aren’t just about learning technical skills, they’re also about soaking in new experiences, expanding your worldview and building meaningful connections. And I’ve been lucky enough to do all of that here.

Q5: How would you describe the company culture here in a few words? What stands out the most to you? What made it special for you?

In just two months, I’ve come to really understand and appreciate the values that guide JJ - Trust, Entrepreneurship, Prudence, Commitment and Partnership. They aren’t just words on a wall, they’re lived out in the day-to-day culture here.

If I had to pick one value that stood out the most to me, it would definitely be Partnership. From day one, everyone has been incredibly approachable, helpful and open to sharing their knowledge. Whether it was asking a quick question or diving deep into a new concept, I always felt like I could reach out without hesitation. That kind of openness creates a culture of trust and support.

But what really made this internship special for me was how included I felt as an intern. I wasn’t just observing from the sidelines. I was trusted with meaningful work, invited into important conversations and encouraged to share my ideas. And all of that, while also being supported in balancing my internship with my studies. That kind of flexibility and trust made a huge difference.

What also impressed me is how this spirit of partnership extends beyond the team and into how the company supports its social and environmental goals. Even small actions are encouraged and celebrated and it’s inspiring to see how everyone contributes in their own way. All of this made me feel like I wasn’t just “doing an internship,” but truly contributing to something bigger, alongside a team that genuinely cares.
