Jebsen & Jessen Offsets Emissions from Landfill Gas Projects

To offset its 2025 emissions, Jebsen & Jessen has purchased 81,435 carbon credits, continuing a carbon neutrality practice that began in 2011.
The credits were acquired from two projects in China that turn landfill gas from waste into electricity instead of letting it out to the atmosphere. The projects were selected from a shortlist by the Group Sustainability Committee after factors including carbon benefits and credit ratings were taken into consideration.
Both projects capture methane which is a potent greenhouse gas and help limit its climate impact. 71,435 credits come from the Shizaiqian landfill gas-to-power project, with a further 10,000 credits from the Nanzhao County landfill project. The projects are certified under the Verified Carbon Standard and carry the ICVCM Core Carbon Principles label.
The credits cover Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions across the Group’s operations last year, which include fuel burned directly and electricity bought to power business activities.
This is also the first time that the Group’s emissions across all business units, including those of GMA, are consolidated for centralised carbon credit purchase. Last year, the Group offset 50,053 tonnes, with GMA’s roughly 26,000 tonnes collated separately.
