Employee Spotlight: Nina Jessen
Meet Nina Jessen, a sustainability heroine at Jebsen & Jessen! Nina spearheaded the creation of the Group's first Sustainability Report, furthering the Group's 30-year legacy of sustainable practices championed by Group Chairman, Heinrich Jessen.This report chronicles the Group's impressive journey in responsible growth and collaboration. In recognition of her impactful work, Nina was invited by the Family Business Network to present the report in Abu Dhabi last October. Her recent inclusion in Prestige Singapore's prestigious "40 under 40" list further underscores her achievements. Nina's dedication to sustainability is a true testament to what can be achieved.
What is your strongest belief?
Simply put, I believe in consuming consciously. While it's not always easy to avoid unnecessary purchases or identify truly sustainable products, even small choices can make a big difference. Each purchase we make is a vote for the kind of world we want to live in.
Think about the cleaning products you use at home. If more and more people switched to eco-friendly options when possible, imagine the impact! That's the power of consumer demand. Just like young people are holding companies accountable, our choices add up. The more we choose sustainable options, the more companies will create products that are good for us and the planet.
What kind of change do you hope to see?
I want to see a shift from the idea that sustainability is solely the government's responsibility. It's a shared challenge that requires effort from all of us - businesses, consumers, and governments.
It may seem contradictory to advocate for sustainability while working for an industrial conglomerate like Jebsen & Jessen Group. However, this is precisely why I chose to join my family business; because our ‘everyday’ products and services are still needed, so it’s crucial to operate as cleanly, efficiently, and innovatively as possible while giving back to our local communities. Exiting our industries would only allow others to continue practices that may not align with sustainability goals. Instead, I believe in leading by example, demonstrating that regardless of the sector, every business has a responsibility. That is why I was proud to publish our inaugural sustainability report in October 2023, which showcases stories about our numerous initiatives, many of which trace back to the 1990s, sparked by our Chairman’s shared passion.

We all have a crucial role to play. Don't give up.
